Niclas Andersen and Kvalserien

What in the heck is Kvalserien? Good question!

Every year, the last two teams in Elitserien (Swedish version of the NHL) compete in a round-robin tournament against the top four teams of HockeyAllsvenskan (Swedish version of the AHL). This tournament is called Kvalserien. When the tournament is over, the top two teams in points move on to Elitserien while the remaining four teams go to HockeyAllsvenskan. In essence, a team from the top tier league can be booted to the minor leagues while a team in the minors can move up to the big time. Thank goodness for Kings fans this tournament doesn’t exist in the NHL!!!

Why do you as fans of Kings prospects care about Kvalserien? Another good question!

Brynäs IF was the worst team in Elitserien this year. One of the top defenseman on Brynäs IF is Kings defensive prospect Niclas Andersen. The good news for Kings fans… Brynas survived the tournament and will return to Elitserien next season. Mora IK was not so lucky and will be relegated to HockeyAllsvenskan.

Congrats on surviving relegation Niclas! Head over the pond and get in Manchester next year!
